Stotfold were eventually held to a point in an eight goal thriller on Tuesday night after coming from two goals down to lead 4-2.
It was the second goalfest the Roker Park faithful had been treated to in four days. ‘Treated’ may be the wrong word as on Saturday the side were on the wrong end of a 5-0 scoreline - see our report on page 70.
They set out on Tuesday keen to erase the memory of that defeat. However by midway through the first half of this SSML Premier fixture they found themselves two goals behind.
Nathan Pooley netted the first after a quarter of an hour, and the Watford-based side were two ahead through Karl Penny.
However Stotfold pulled themselves back into the game with a strike from Ben L’Honore.
And within a minute of the restart they equalised, Michael Simpson getting on the scoresheet.
Stotfold went in front for the first time on 72 minutes when Theo Swaine found the back of the net, and Aaron Welch extended that to 4-2.
But if the Eagles thought thye were safe they were wrong.
Penney pulled one back with ten minutes to go and Thomas bagged the equaliser two minutes later.
Stotfold have a free bank holiday weekend but are in action on Wednesday when they visit Welwyn Garden City in the Dudley Latham Cup.
