Stotfold are still looking for their first SSML points of the season after losing 2-1 at home to Hertford on Tuesday.

Jordan Watson rode two tackles inside the Stotfold box and slotted home to put the visitors ahead after 13 minutes.

In reply Jaiden Irish, looking out of position up front, put through Jake Long who shot wide, as did Ricky Young when set up by Josh Murray. Between times, a good chance was wasted by indecision when Stotfold had numbers up front but Theo Swaine was caught offside.

Captain Ryan Ellis’s desperate last ditch interception prevented the visitors extending their lead, and an ugly tackle by Long earned him a caution.

Early in the second half, Swaine managed to clear the crossbar from close range, but made amends when a well struck shot from Mark Ellis could only be parried and Swaine was well positioned to pounce and equalise.

The ill-tempered game looked like fizzling out for a draw, but a loose ball and sweeper Michael Payne’s momentary loss of concentration gifted a soft winner, snapped up by Leigh Rose.
