Waders cruise into Beds Senior Cup semis

Biggleswade Town progressed to the Beds Senior Cup semi-final with a comfortable 4-1 victory over Bedford FC on Tuesday.

A much changed Waders XI proved too strong for their SSML Premier Division opponents and were four goals up at the break.

It sets up a semi-final clash with AFC Dunstable – the other semi sees Arlesey play Barton.

A hardy 65 souls braved the freezing conditions at the Carlsberg Stadium but the home fans among them were rewarded with a goal in the first minute through Forsythe.

Lee Northfield then doubled the advantage on the half hour, sweeping home into the bottom corner from the edge of the box. The third duly arrived when Zac Tyrell cooly converted from a corner.

The pick of the bunch was the fourth just before the interval. Biggleswade won possession in the middle of the park and a string of passes saw the ball floated into the box. An initial header was well saved but Northfield pounced to convert from close in.

The tie was all but settled at half time but to their credit Bedford came out stronger in the second half, forcing several chances and they were rewarded when Boyd scrambled home a consolation.

Before then Waders had rung the changes, Ben Merson coming off and being replaced by brother Sam while Inskip and Bailey also got runouts.

Biggleswade Town are in home league action on Saturday when they welcome Hungerford Town to the Carlsberg Stadium. They visit Hitchin Town in the Red Insure Cup on Monday.

The scheduled SSML Premier Division clashes on Tuesday - Sun Sports v Biggleswade United and Stotfold v Berkhamsted - were both postponed.
