WSA crowned English College champions

Wright Sports Academies, in association with Mandeville School, completed their season as English College champions following a hard-fought win over rivals FAB Football Academy at Bisham Abbey.

Both teams knew victory would give them the league title and it was WSA who started the brighter, with the excellent Leon Harding hitting the crossbar on 15 minutes.

FAB created half chances but WSA remained the more threatening side and they deservedly took the lead shortly before half-time when Harding volleyed into the top corner from 25 yards.

WSA failed to hold onto their lead until the break, however, as FAB equalised on the stroke of the half-time.

The second half proved to be a nervy and tight affair, with FAB taking a 2-1 lead midway through, but WSA regrouped as the excellent Ollie Hogg and Rob Tomlin dominated in midfield, while TJ Bartley, Airron Francis and Jordan Davis provided great supporting runs for Leon Harding – and it was Leon who equalised for WSA. From a pinpoint through ball from Hogg, Harding held off two defenders and finished well from the edge of the box.

FAB searched for the goal that would have given them victory and the title, but stout defending from Billy Harrison, Greg Copcutt, Leon Graham, Luke Russell and goalkeeper Jack Hopwood kept the visitors at bay.

With the FAB goalkeeper coming up fora late corner, WSA broke away after an excellent clearing header from Harrison and Bartley managed to slot the ball into an empty net to confirm the title and cue wild celebrations.
