Biggleswade Athletic Club’s junior members gathered at the Weatherley Centre on December 18 to recognise their efforts during the past year.
Club champions were Sophie Forbes-Laird (U11 Girls), Bailey Foster (U11 Boys), Georgia Smith (U13 Girls), Elliot Swinburne (U13 Boys), Jordan Bircumshaw (U15 Girls), Nathan Dodd (U15 Boys), Chloe Emery (U17 Girls) and Callum Dickson-Earle (U17 Boys).
Best Female Performance was from Jessica Cooke and the award for Most Improved Female Athlete was given to Hannah Philips. The Best Male Performance was from Callum Dickson-Earle with the Most Improved Male Athlete going to Morgan Webster.
AAA (Amateur Athletic Association) awards were also presented to a number of individuals. Grade 1 indicates that the athlete is in the top 5% of the UK, Grade 2 12%, Grade 3 20% and Grade 4 top 30%. The following Biggleswade AC athletes received AAA grades:
U13 Girls – Valerie Snowball (100m Grade 3 and 200m Grade 4), Georgina Smith (100m Grade 3 and 200m Grade 3), Emily Day (200m Grade 4 and Long Jump Grade 4), Leonie Brunning (High Jump Grade 4).
U20 Women – Sarah Ridley (Shot Put Grade 4)
U13 Boys – Callum Rayner (100m Grade 4 and 200m Grade 2), Tom Whinney (800m Grade 3 and Javelin Grade 4), Elliott Swinburn (Long Jump Grade 2).
U15 Boys – Cameron Stokes (200m Grade 2), Tristan Rayner (300m Grade 2), Nathan Dodds (Shot Grade 4, Discus Grade 3 and Javelin Grade 4).
U17 Men – Morgan Webster (100m Grade 4, 200m Grade 3 and 400m Grade 2), Callum Dickson-Earle (100m Hurdles Grade 3, 60m Hurdles Grade 2 and Discus Grade 3).
U20 Men – Ethan Metcalfe (200m Grade 2), Euan Dickson-Earle (110m Hurdles Grade 1, 60m Grade 2 and 60m Hurdles Grade 1).
Dan Steel competed at the South of England Athletics Association Combined Events Championships at Lee Valley. Participating in the 60m, 60m Hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot put, pole vault and the 1000m, Dan accumulated 3,372 points narrowly missing out on new personal best and club record by just 11 points.
Meanwhile the senior ladies cross-country team of Juliet Naylor, Isobel Everest and Lindsay Lister, had another good day at the office in the penultimate match of the Three Counties Cross Country League on December 20. They finished second to go back to the top of the league, leading Bedford Harriers, by three points going into the next match on Sunday.
And finally, 30 members of Biggleswade AC donned their wings and checked their wands were in good working order for the club’s Fairy Run – a three mile race around the perimeter of the RSPB’s Lodge reserve in Sandy. The joint winners this year were Vicky Berry and Joanne Ellary.
The winner of the Best Dressed Fairy award, as voted by members, was Nat Morgan with her Fairy Codmother creation. Nat is the first member to have won the award twice.
