Biggleswade Squash Club have been crowned Herts League champions – overcoming the disappointment of losing the Herts Junior Cup final to Letchworth on Friday.

With Berkhamsted IV unable to field a team during the week a walkover for Biggleswade secured promotion as champions back to league two for next season.

In the cup final, played at Broxbourne, Biggleswade opted to field a youthful team with skipper Dan Easton the only team member over 25.

They got off to the worse possible start with number 2 Jay Ledger having to retire through injury. Marcus Gray at string 5 was unable to continue his recent good form and lost 3-1 to Jon Miles.

Dan Easton at number 4 continued his excellent form in beating Alan Cook 3-1. Owen Ledger at string two went down 3-1 to Neil Morgan and Sam McCoy at number 1 found Nathan Derrick too strong, losing in straight games.

In a rare Saturday friendly fixture, Biggleswade member Stefan Claessens was joined by his former clubmates from Antwerp, Belgium.

Chris Moss at number 5 had a comfortable straight games victory over Gino Auguijns.

Paul Harrop, debuting for Biggleswade at number 4 faced Stefan Claessens and took a game before losing 3-1.

Paul Hunt at number two was competitive against Steven Van De Vijver before losing 3-1.

Nathan Bascom at string 3 found Guy Van Rompaey in good form and lost in straight games before Marcus Gray at number 1 lost 3-1 to Eric Raeymaeckers.
