S&S firsts go clear at the top

Shefford & Sandy mens firsts are clear at the top of the East Men’s League Division 2N after a 7-2 win at home to Dereham 2s.

The Mens 1s did all the hard work in the first half going into the break 5-1 up, Chris Fell scoring four of those. In the second half they took their foot of the pedal bit allowing Dereham to compete. The result though was never in question as they went two points clear at the top of Division 2N. S&S have a crunch game on Saturday against second placed Sudbury.

S&S 2s didn’t put in a great performance but ran out 4-0 winners at WGC 2s in Division 6SW due to some great finishing. Nerves were settled early on when a great solo run by Lewis Bridger saw him find Danny Price who neatly deflected the ball home.

Price then picked up his second with another good finish. At the other end Welwyn put the S&S defence under pressure, but keeper Dom Wright was in good form.

S&S collected their third when Peter Reed threaded a great ball through to Bridger who outpaced the defence to slot calmly past the keeper The second half was patchy with Welwyn having more chances, but S&S defence mostly stayed firm with Jake Danson putting in another man of the match performance well supported by youngster Matt Radley and Wright continuing his good form of the first half. Reed put the icing on the cake with a well placed shot from the top of the D.

The Mens 3s continued their perfect record in Division 8SW with a 11-0 demolition of St Albans 8s who had won their previous five on the trot. There were hatricks for Daz Hepburn and youngster Brett Woodhouse, a brace for Alan Warren and a goal each for James Morris, Joe Purslow & Man of the Match Angus Monaghan.

S&S 4s went down to Bedford 5s in Division 9SW but this was a competitive game with the 6-2 score really not reflecting the balance of the game. Bedford deservedly took the lead but the late arrival of Paul Angell adding some solidity to the defence. S&S equalised after Ryan Devlin found Jamie Parkes and his pass fell to skipper Trevor Bridger whose lifted shot was stopped illegally. The resultant flick was despatched by Bridger.

The second half saw S&S in the ascendant, Bridger having two blistering strikes brilliantly saved. However they lost defender Dan Coverdale to an injury and Bedford scored three goals in five minutes. S&S pulled one back after Devlin got a ball across to 13 year old Alistair Wood who slotted home. Bedford collected another goal.

S&S: Charlie Garwood, Paul Angell, Ed De Luca, Dan Coverdale, Andy Cusack, Elliot Wood, Grant Kirby, Ryan Devlin, Alistair Wood, Trevor Bridger, Jamie Parkes, Harry Waby, Zach Christodoulou.

S&S Ladies 2s smashed seven past St Albans Bodiceas without reply to lead 5 Counties Division 2.

It took S&S a while to adapt the outside elements but once they were into their stride there was not stopping them. Field forced home the first goal after the defenders failed to clear. Hannah Bartram, top scoring midfielder, added to her tally with a spectacular strike.

The second half belonged S&S as the Bodiceas were outplayed, the S&S keeper only touching the ball once. Field added her second and then turned provider as Saxon pounced on the cross to make it four. Bartram added her second and S&S’s fifth with another fine strike.

Green added the sixth after a goalmouth melee and Wilson scored the seventh. Player of the match went to Bartram. On Saturday S&S travel to Essex.
