The Biggleswade Specials

This photo belonged to Winifred Whiteman who lived in Biggleswade High Street and was well-known in the town. It shows members of the Biggleswade Special Police Force in 1940, volunteers who were important for the war effort as they allowed the regular police to carry out other duties. The picture was taken behind the police station.

And in the front row are Harry Smith, William Brooks, Herbert Crooks, Charles Larkinson, HQ Inspector, Joe Dobson, Charles Woodward, Walter Cooper and Harold Boness.
