At the time, an appeal to build a new pavilion after fire destroyed the old thatched one had reached the £5,000 mark and Geoff said that it was going to be a new phase in the club’s history.
The new pavilion was later named after him.
Retiring but not out!
Front page news 25 years ago this week featured the retirement of late well-known local man Geoff Reeks from his role as secretary of Ickwell Green Cricket Club – a post he had held for 56 years. Geoff, who was honoured with the British Empire Medal for his services to cricket, was intending to retain strong links with the club however, continuing as assistant secretary.
