Rose regulars exercised more than just their right arm!

Brawny regulars of The Rose pub in Biggleswade borrowed one of United Counties mammoth double decker buses and hauled it uphill for a staggering one and a half miles 25 years ago this week.

The stunt was carried out to raise money for Telethon 88, an ITV programme which was designed to encourage fundraising for disability charities.

More than 20 regulars turned out to pull the vehicle through Biggleswade High Street and all the way to what was then Texas Homecare on the retail park near the A1. Some of the haulers wore fancy dress and even managed to carry collection buckets along the way.

Landlord Derek Horswell said: “The turn out was brilliant. I was amazed. It was a magic morning.”

A United Counties driver steered the bus along its man-powered route and the company donated £20 towards the cause.
