Fairies on run in Biggleswade AC race

A total of 25 ‘fairies’ took part in Biggleswade AC’s, now traditional, Fairy Run handicap race.

This annual event has grown in popularity with members and this year’s event had a slightly ‘green’ theme as a large group decided to mimic the outfit usually worn by club chairman Nigel Bush, AKA the Gree- Haired Fairy, each year.

Chris Clarke was first to finish the three-mile route around the RSPB’s Lodge Reserve, with Vince Plosky claiming the fastest time.

The mass of green-haired fairies then retired to the William Peel for some well-earned food and the presentation of the trophies as well as the draw for the club’s three London Marathon places – the lucky members being Giles Hawthorne, Andy Hedley and Cat Marriott.

It was an extremely tight battle for the accolade of Best Dressed Fairy, however the (real) Green Haired Fairy (Nigel) won by just one vote over Steve Atkins and Charlie Arnold.

Mid-afternoon, a small number of fairies embarked on a tour of the hostelries of Everton, Wrestlingworth and Potton – mentions go to the Thornton Arms, the Chequers, the Coach House and the Rising Sun, respectively, for not appearing too shocked at the mass of green wigged runners invading their establishments.
