Biggleswade Under 12s finished runners up at the Mobbs Memorial tournament at St Neots on Sunday.
In a group of five teams, Biggy started slowly scraping a 5-0 win over the hosts with the only try coming from a determined individual effort from Ben.
Next up were Bedford Blues B who were blown away by Biggy’s great rucking and counter attacking, 25-0, the tries scored by Luke, Ben, Quinn, Will and James M.
Up next were Peterborough. Biggleswade attacked from the start and raced in to a 25-0 lead at half time with tries from Will (2), Quinn, James M and Roby, Knowing that in a tight group it might go down to points advantage a brace from Luke in the second half completed the victory 35-0.
Finally came the decider against unbeaten Ampthill who dominated the early exchanges to lead 10-0. All looked lost with four minutes left on the clock until James M ran in the corner to give Biggy hope. With the last play called, quick thinking from James C set up James M who equalised to send Biggy through.
After four tough group games the final was always going to be tricky against a large Bedford squad. Biggleswade created several good chances, but eventually went down 15-0 to strong opposition. A superb day’s rugby from a team that always give their all and are improving every week.
