S&S Men stay top of the league

This time it was Cambridge Nomads to be on the receiving end following victory over Cambridge City IV in their opening fixture of 2016.

Goals came from the goal machine that is Chris Fell (2), Alyn Meredith and youngster Liam Stevens

S&S Mens II returned to winning ways with a 5-1 success at home to Welwyn Garden City III. Despite the emphatic scoreline this was not a routine victory and in fact Welwyn took the lead as a disjointed looking S&S team struggled to put their passes together.

S&S did get back on level terms before half time with Steve Brookes on target.

The second half was much better with some more structured hockey and some excellent finishing as Brookes completed a second consecutive treble and Robbie Stevens also collected a brace.

James Morris was man of the match, but there were also good performances from keeper Dom Wright and Ethan Pennington, as S&S maintained their second place in Div 6SW.

S&S Mens III took time to break down Stevenage V but eventually triumphed 3-0.

They came up against a determined visiting side who did well to frustrate them in the first half and keep a 0-0 score line.

In the second half S&S upped the ante and soon took the lead Steve Ashdown producing a neat glance. Ben Stewart soon made it two as he from his own shot collected a rebound off the post.

Despite some heroics from the Stevenage keeper S&S collected their third and best goal as Angus Monaghan waltzed through the Stevenage defence to set up Ashdown for his second. S&S III are top of Div 8SW and promotion is in their hands to take.

Jake Foad in an unaccustomed defensive role put in an excellent performance turning defence into attack to earn the man of the match award.

S&S Mens IV started the New Year with a strong performance to totally outplay Southgate Adelaide III and win 3-0.

The difference between the two sides was the passing and strength in the tackles. Youngster Alistair Wood was in the right place to finish from close range. Some tight neat skills from James Pearce made it two from a narrow angle just before half time.

The second half was more of the same, several chances were squandered before Darren France produced a well placed finish.

The entire team played well and it was good to see Steve West back in goal after two years out and saving well a penalty flick awarded to Adelaide late in the game.
