Teenager gives masterclass at Womnen's British Open final qualifer

The 18-year-old topped the qualification for the Major at Woburn later this week after carding eight birdies and an eagle to finish three strokes ahead of Spain’s Marta Sanz and USA’s Annie Park.

Ashok, who was 2015 Ladies British Amateur Stroke Play Champion before turning pro at the end of last year, made a slow start on the Bedfordshire course before finishing in style.

She said: “It took me a couple of holes to settle. I dropped a shot at the first after hooking my opening tee shot. Then on the third I had to get up-and-down from about 80 yards but after that I played really well.

“The highlight was my eagle on the 15th where I hit a driver and a three-rescue to about 10 feet and I finished with three straight birdies which was nice. This is going to be my first Major so I’m really looking forward to it.”

With 16 qualifying spots available for the third Major of the year, which begins on Thursday, English amateur Bronte Law progressed thanks to a bogey-free round of 70.

The other qualifiers were Cydney Clanton, Amelia Lewis, Laetitia Beck, Ashleigh Simon, who is competing in the Olympics next month, Maude-Aimee Leblanc, Vicky Hurst, Wei-Ling Tsu, Lydia Hall, Isabel Gabsa, Ann Van Dam, Charlotte Ellis and Mina Harigae.
