Live music aims to get people off their feet and enjoy dance

There will be music from Melobo and Jane Bird in Baldock on Friday March 18 who will be urging people to dance the night away.

The latest in the series of Unicorn Ceilidh events takes place at St Mary’s Hall in Church Street.

Graham on the melodeon and fiddle, Charlotte on the oboe and recorder and Howard on bass and tenor guitar are Melobo. They intend to produce a very varied and unusual combination of sounds.

Jane is heavily involved with Oxfolk ceilidhs, and has a wealth of experience from the Oxford folk music and dance scene. A top caller who will make the night fly by!

A spokesman for the event said: “Both January and February’s ceilidhs were resounding successes, with over 50 dancers enjoying themselves. Let’s make this month’s just as good, if not better!

“Forget the armchair and television for just one night, and exercise those muscles. You know it makes sense.”

People can simply pay at the door. The evening starts at 8pm with the doors opening at 7.30pm. It finishes about 11pm.

Entrance is £10 for adults and £9 for seniors and children under 18 is £6. Students and the unwaged can get in for £7. First 6 students before 8pm.

All the dances are walked through beforehand, and the emphasis is very much on enjoying yourself, rather than getting everything step perfect.

The spokesman added: “Be as exuberant or as restrained as you want when you dance.”

There’s a raffle with a chance to win a bottle of wine or chocolates.
