A new leader has taken the helm at a youth club.

Sandra Stratford is taking charge of the Sandy Young People’s Tuesday Youth Club.

She has lived in Sandy for 26 years and she helped project co-ordinator, Ken Lynch, to start up the club six years ago.

But she had to step down after a year to concentrate on her work.

Sandra, of Pyms Way, takes over from Paula Wenham, who successfully ran the club for five years but who has had to step down for personal
reasons.

The club was in great need of a new leader before Sandra offered to reprise her former role. Sandra has six children and three grandchildren of her own and she was also a foster carer for 10 years.

She is looking for helpers to assist with sessions, and particularly somebody who is good at arts and crafts.

Football sessions will resume after the summer holidays under the guidance of an experienced football coach.

In the meantime youngsters can join the holiday swimming sessions at Sandye Place Academy. They run on Tuesday evenings from 6pm to 8pm. Call ahead first.

Sandy Town Council has helped to fund these sessions, which are attended by a fully qualified lifeguard.

The usual club, for eight to 13-year-olds will run every Tuesday evening from September.
