Many gardens, both large and small, will be open to display their horticultural treasures. You can also visit the village lock-up (no longer in use) and help dig an archaeological test pit to uncover even more historical loot.

And it goes without saying there’s a treasure hunt for the youngsters, complete with a pirate centre in the village hall. They can also enjoy free workshops with storytelling, drama and crafts in addition to making May Day crowns and garlands and having their faces painted.

Some businesses will be open during the day, including a jeweller’s workshop.

There are various displays from local clubs and organisations featuring talented local artists and photographs taken four decades ago.
