Vineyard work is recognised

Volunteers picking grapes at Warden Abbey Vineyard community project

They’ve been running the project, near Old Warden, for the past six years, making it one of the few true community vineyards in the UK.

It is also the 30th anniversary of the planting of the modern vineyard, which is on the site of a medieval vineyard created by monks at Arden Abbey.

Manager Jane Markham said: “It’s an honour to be included in the ranks of local businesses nominated for an award.

“Our wines have won awards every year but success in these food and drink awards wuld be fantastic recognition from the local community for what the volunteers have achieved – not just in the vineyard but in running tours and other events to raise funds and keep the project going.” She added: “I hope that if people have enjoyed our vineyard tours, they’ll support us by voting in the awards.”
