Man hit by train near Biggleswade

A man was hit by a train yesterday (Sunday, August 4).

The incident occurred on the foot crossing north of Biggleswade, by the common, just before 7pm.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “BTP officers were called to the rail line near Biggleswade after a report of a person being struck by a train.

“The incident was reported to BTP at 6.59pm and was also attended by Bedfordshire Police officers.

“Medics from the East of England Ambulance Service attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is currently being treated as non-suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Coroner.”

The line was handed back to Network Rail at 8.35pm.

It was reopened fully at 10.30pm.
