Prepare for the duck race!

ONE Chronicle Country town is set to go quackers this weekend as its carnival programme continues.

The first big family event of the annual Biggleswade Carnival programme, the Duck Race takes place on Sunday (June 19).

Plastic ducks will be raced along the River Ivel by the Dan Albone Car Park, close to the bridge near Sainsbury’s.

The first race will start at 2pm and will be followed by others throughout the afternoon.

Ducks can be bought in advance from the carnival stall in Biggleswade Market Square on Saturday, and cost just £1 each.

Cash prizes will be on offer for the winners. As well as the races there will also be a host of side stalls and a mini disco, barbecue and sweet stall.

The afternoon of fun will begin at 12.30pm.

Biggleswade United Working Men’s Club will be the venue for a carnival race night on Saturday (June 18) and the fun will start at 8pm.

On Wednesday (June 22) a children’s disco will take place at the club.

A free raffle, sweet stall and dancing competition will feature, and the disco will run from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

The event is open to children aged up to 12 and tickets are available to buy from the Biggleswade Chronicle office. Entry is £2 for children and free for accompanying adults.

A quiz night will be held at the club on Monday (June 20).

Teams of up to six with a passion for knowledge are being invited to take part.

A bingo night will also be held at the club on Tuesday (June 21).

Cash prizes, including a £100 jackpot will be available and books cost just 50p.
