Time travelling author reveals her recipe for writing stories

Julia Jarman, who writes books for children of all ages, spent Wednesday at Roxton Lower School.

Julia’s books include The Time Travelling Cat series, When Poppy Ran Away and The Jessame Stories.

Year 2 teacher, Kerry Cooper, said: “Julia was very nice and we had a number of different activities. In the morning she did an interactive session with our Reception and Year 1 children.

“In the afternoon workshop with Years 2, 3 and 4 she explained her recipe for writing a book and demonstrating it using the children’s ideas.”

The visit was paid for by the PTA’s table top sale last summer.

Prior to the workshop, the pupils read books by the author. The Year 2s looked at The Magic Backpack and designed their own magic backpacks.

Kerry added: “The children loved the visit. It was really nice that some of the children that don’t find writing easy had really good ideas.”
