Batting collapse sends Ickwell to heavy loss

Ickwell won the toss at The Green and put the visitors into bat, and having taken four early wickets very cheaply must have thought that they would restrict the visitors to a low score.

However Philip Holland (50) and Muhammad Chaudry (65) then put together a good stand and the visitors finished on 209 all out from just 33.3 overs. In the Stamford innings only three batsmen reached double figures.

The most successful of the Ickwell bowlers was Milin Gandhi taking 4-9 from his 3.1 overs while Chris Wing finished with 3-26 from his opening spell.

Unfortunately Ickwell’s innings was a complete disaster as they collapsed to 82 all out in 19.1 overs.

Only Milin Gandhi (37) and Ross Fensome (18) reached double figures and there were three ducks including Paul Oakins to the first ball of the match.

Biggleswade’s 121 total at Houghton & Wyton in Division Three was always going to be difficult to defend and so it proved.

After both openers fell cheaply, Adam Lawrence was bowled by a good ball for 21, George Bascom (30) was removed by a smart stumping, and Biggleswade were soon 51-5.

Chris Waghorn (30) and James Gauge (25) put on a patient 50 partnership but when they were gone it wasn’t long before Biggleswade were all out for 121.

Houghton & Wyton’s opening pair proved difficult to shift.

Laura Charter removed two batsmen with catches from Conor Smith and Waghorn, and Max Smith grabbed a wicket before Mike Piagessi finished the match with a six.

Ickwell II lost by four wickets at Falcon in Division Five, despite a fine 70 from their captain Tom Jackson batting at number four.
