Results at a premium as rain stops play in Beds County League

However there was a welcome home win for Waresley against fellow strugglers Eversholt in the only Premier Division game to be completed.

Batting first, Waresley were in all sorts of trouble at 56-7, but a stand of 79 between Jack Richards (53*) and Freddie Nickolds (35) meant that the hosts reached a respectable 174 all out.

Waresley opening bowlers Tom Baker (7-4-7-3) and Robert Lowin (8-2-26-5) blew the Eversholt batting line up away, and only some late hitting from Jack Fuller (45) got the visitors past the 100 mark.

Southill Park’s match at home to Langford was abandoned in the 25th over when the hosts were on 84.4.

In Division Two a determined Ickwell beat the weather and Queens Park to stay top of the table.

This proved to be an excellent game despite it being played in challenging conditions with a continual threat of heavy rain.

Ickwell put visitors Queen’s Park into bat. Opener and top scorer Hassan Yousaf (46) helped make a good start to the innings and later he was supported by Jaskaran Singh (30).

But none of the last seven Queen’s Park batsmen got into double figures as they were all out for 157.

For Ickwell, bowlers Chris Wing (3-36) did the early damage and later on Harry Young (3-33) and Milin Gandhi (3-24) picked up wickets.

Ickwell lost a wicket to the second ball of their innings but Jamie Barnes (19) and Matt Hamilton (57) built a solid foundation with a second wicket stand of 83 with a good mixture of wellstruck boundaries and some breathtaking (literally!) running.

Ickwell managed to set themselves in a winning position as they completed the 20 overs to make this count as a match. Even so Jaskaran Singh (2-7) continually threatened to run through the batting. At this stage Harry Fallows (39 not out) played a mature innings as he guided Ickwell home with some good boundaries and solid defence.

Clifton simply blew Eaton Socon away to win the only other match in the top three divisions to finish, romping home by ten wickets in the 12th over.
