Vital win for Waresley in Cambs League

Waresley claimed a vital win at Nassington in their Cambs Premier League Tucker Gardner game on Saturday.

Fielding first, they reduced the home side to 26-4 before Adam McDermott (44) and Conor Craig (20) helped the score to 150 in 48.3 overs. Pick of the bowlers for Waresley were the opening pair of Tom Baker (3-20) and Chetan Chauhan (3-19).

In reply, Waresley struggled with the new ball, but a stand of 63 between Ian Donald (53) and Sam Johnson (27) nearly took them over the line.

A fine spell of seam bowling by Dan Bandaranaike (5-12) reduced the visitors to 115-8, but skipper Jake Allcock (29*) saw Waresley to victory with a ball to spare, giving them a maximum 24 points.

Meanwhile Blunham remain rooted to the foot of the table after a five wicket defeat at Burwell II.

Michael Pickard made 51 at the top of the order for Blunham but nobody else could hang around too long and the side were all out for 153.

Burwell openers Manish Burman and Matthew Hague put on 82 for the first wicket.

Shabz Hussain gave Blunham hope as he removed four of the top five to leave them wobbling at 116-5 – however Burwell saw the game home without further alarm.
