Around 50 youngsters joined Beadlow juniors Harry Boyle, Luke Charalambous, Taz Thiarra, Bradley Black, Andrew Round and Govind Sandhu. Boyle (hcp 1) continued his fine run of form, and posted an excellent two under par 67, including four birdies, despite having to borrow a trolley half way round, to win the Geoffrey Watts Trophy.

Boyle’s nearest rival was his fellow Beadlow junior Charalambous (hcp 7) who posted a superb 1 over par 70 to claim the handicap prize with a nett 63. The team event (Schwer Trophy) is competed for with three juniors per team, and all nett scores counting towards an aggregate total. Boyle and Charalambous were in a team with Thiarra (hcp 9) and his nett 70 saw a 199 total for the team, which also saw Beadlow win the Schwer Trophy by eight shots from Thorpeness. Andrew Round (hcp 19) also enjoyed his first trip away with a fine nett 67 to secure a fourth place nett prize.

The only recent blemish was Beadlow A failing to progress beyond the last 16 of the National matchplay event.

Back at Beadlow Manor Lee Houghton (hcp 26) put together an excellent round of nett 64 in the September Junior Medal (Baron, September 6) with Boyle returning the best gross of 70 (3 under par), while in the September Junior Stableford (Baroness, Sat 13 Sep) Houghton was again in the mix with 40 points but was edged out on this occasion by Drew Richardson (hcp 36) who amassed 42 points.

Boyle also represented Bedfordshire at the Junior Champion of Champions on the mighty Hotchkin course at Woodhall Spa on Saturday.

Boyle took on a course resplendent with heather, gorse and intimidating bunkers guarding fairways and greens alike. The par 73 course played as tough as it looked and only the winner from Hampshire finished below par after 36 holes, with Boyle finishing a respectable 18th out of the 30 champions, with a 160 total.
