Vikings get ready for invasion at Stotfold Watermill

The 14th Steam Fair and Country Show comes to the venue on Saturday May 7 and Sunday May 8.

There will be Viking re-enactments, to eagle and vulture displays, from Captain Neville and his flying circus, to the ever popular traction engine tug-of-war, from quality craft stalls to wonderful gift, plant and food vendors.

The beer tent will again be providing a great range of beers, ciders and real ales, music to suit all ages will be on offer all weekend.

2016 sees the welcome return of the Ken Fox Wall of Death to the show. This spectacle dates back to the early 1900s and became a popular attraction of travelling fairgrounds across Britain and America.

A recent live Channel 4 programme showed the motorcycle ace, Guy Martin, attempting to set a Wall of Death world speed record. In order to do this a special 20-ton wooden wall, six metres high and ten metres in diameter was built, four times larger than our traditional fairground wall. It was thrilling to see Guy smash the record when he clocked up a hair-raising 78.15 mph.

Ken Fox, recognised as one of the world’s leading Wall of Death riders, mentored Guy throughout his extensive training leading to that spectacular night of TV. Christine Smith, leader of the marketing team at the Mill said: “We can’t promise those kinds of speeds but none-the-less it will be exhilarating to see the Ken Fox stunt motorcycle team perform during the weekend.”

As usual there are lots of activities guaranteed to keep the kids entertained. This year, besides supervised slides, bouncy castles, giant games and a gladiator joust, there is a specially-designed course for racing radio-controlled cars.

Gates open at 10.30am each day and close at 5 pm. Tickes cost £4 for children, £5 for senior citizens and £8 for adults.
