Bluegrass, swing and the King

CHRONICLE Country rockers 3 Days of Freedom will be kickstarting a busy weekend of music in the area on Friday (March 9).

The Shefford four-piece play covers and originals and will be performing at The White Horse pub in Arlesey.

Solo artist BrianJ will be providing an evening of swing, jazz and melody at The Five Bells in Cople on Saturday, meanwhile (March 10).

Geordie Elvis will be bringing the best of the King to The Engineer’s Arms in Henlow, also on Saturday, while Chicago blues from the 1940s to the 1970s will be the sound heard at The Ivy Leaf Club in Langford on the same night.

The Coal House Blues Band, who are booked to play are a five-piece act made up of harmonica, piano, guitar, drums and bass.

Rhythm and blues, rock and roll and a little soul meanwhile, will be on the agenda at Potton and District Club on Saturday when Juke play at the venue.

Rob Muir, a solo artist will be playing acoustic covers and originals at The Bell in Sandy, also on Saturday.

Bedfordshire perfomer Rob is a singer, songwriter and guitarist who has played in a variety of bands over the years.

His key inspirations include Pearl Jam, Nirvana and Alice in Chains but he has also been influenced by soul, Motown and funk sounds and acts like Stevie Wonder and The Supremes.

The White Hart Hotel in Shefford will be the venue for a performance by XL5 on Friday.

The band is made up largely of performers from previous bands and plays rock covers from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.

Classic covers and originals will also be on the cards at The Green Dragon in Upper Gravenhurst on Friday.

Something Blue are a duo who play a wide variety of instruments and different styles. Americana and Bluegrass are their specialities, and they will also mix up the way they play from gig to gig.

Performers Rob and Sarah will sometimes sing harmonies together while on other occasions Rob will sing while Sarah plays the soprano saxophone.

Between them the pair play guitar, saxophone, bass, drums, harmonica, mandolin, ukulele, banjo and percussion so variety is assured.

As the weather gradually warms up and the sun starts to shine music fans inevitably start thinking about the summer.

It seems just as well then that the promoters of a popular Chronicle Country festival have already announced some star names for this year’s event.

The Rhythm Festivals 2012 will take place at Old Warden Park from Friday, August 24 to Sunday, August 26.

Stax Hammond organ superstar Booker T Jones will be joining the Boomtown Rats, led by original guitarist Garry Roberts and drummer Simon Crowe. For more information about the festival see www.rhythmfestival.com
