Masters of ska set for village

AMONG the many singers and bands who perform at venues throughout Chronicle Country, there are some regular names who are certain to entertain.

One of these is soloist Paul Adams, who is due to play at The New Inn in Biggleswade on Sunday (August 7), from 3.30pm to 6pm.

Paul, who can also perform as part of a band, plays classic rock, whether electric or acoustic.

Punters can expect to hear classics from the likes of Queen, Oasis, Bon Jovi and Bryan Adams.

Those who favour different kinds of sounds may like to head to Cople playing fields this weekend.

The Cople Music Festival will take place today (Friday, August 5) and tomorrow (Saturday, August 6).

A barbecue, beer and an acoustic band will be on the menu at Cople Social Club tonight, with the bar opening at 6pm and the music starting from 9pm.

A Saturday Proms, meanwhile, will start at 4pm and will feature the Ska Masters, Sunset Reset, The Good Fellaz, OldHatt and Rhubarb and the Cople Songsters.

The Ska Masters are a nine piece band playing first wave classics and ska from the 2Tone era.

Formed in the summer of 2009, they have quickly built up a reputation for top notch, high energy gigs.

The band play covers of songs from The Specials, Madness, The Selecter, The Beat and Bad Manners mixed in with early bluebeat reggae.

Featuring three vocalists and a brass section festival goers can be sure of a great sound.

The music will start at 4pm.

An ISIS Records Presents night at The Wrestlers in Langford tomorrow, meanwhile, will feature Peter Hill, also known as pop, rock and acoustic artist Jam Dude.

The Roundabout Club in Sandy, meanwhile, will be paying host to SugarSoul tomorrow night.

Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Diana Ross, Gwen McCrea and Mary J Blige are just some of the singers whose hits are likely to feature in the set.

From soul to jazz, Edgeworth House in Arlesey will be the venue for a little of the latter when jazz pianist Andrei Pytaleu performs tomorrow night.

The Natterjacks, a 1950s tribute band will also be performing at Biggleswade United Working Men’s Club for the first time tomorrow.

Elvis Presley, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Buddy Holly and Carl Perkins are just some of the artists that the band pay tribute to.

Admission is £2 for members and £3 for non-members.

The Crown and Cushion in Great Gransden, meanwhile, will be the venue for an acoustic night on Wednesday, courtesy of Gamlingay Records.

Entry is free and the music will start at 7.30pm.

Tonight one of the favourite bands of Danny’s Bar in Bedford, Full Circle will also make a rare appearance.

This is the first time that the band have played at Esquires since New Year’s Eve 2010.

The boys will kick off at about 8pm playing a mix of their own excellent material while dropping in a few crowd requests along the way.

As with most gigs at Danny’s Bar admission is refreshingly free.
