A play’s First World War theme is particularly appropriate in 2014, a century after the conflict began.

The play is focused on the fact that in this country 52 communities were called Thankful Villages – because all their soldiers survived the war and returned home.

In this play by Kate Bramley the quiet village of Thankful-in-the-Vale is changed forever by the advent of the First World War.

But the memorial in the village square remains empty and un-etched as the years pass and folk start to wonder.

This is a story of hope, humour and humanity, about the men who went away and the women left behind, and the eccentric twists and turns of daily life that led to their reuniting, for better or for worse, in the winter of 1918.

The performance will be on Saturday, May 31 at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £10 for adults and £5 for concessions from Chris Thorne on 01767 651239.
