New season announced for Cambridge season

Famous faces from both stage and screen are treading the Arts Theatre’s boards this season.

Call the Midwife and Strictly Come Dancing star Helen George stars in Patrick Marber’s After Miss Julie prior to a West End transfer; esteemed English actor Michael Pennington in King Lear and Noël Coward’s hilarious wit returns with Present Laughter starring Samuel West.

The summer season is brimming with award-winning dramas and comedy: Clybourne Park lifts the lid on race and real estate in a razor sharp satire, based in a fictional Chicago neighbourhood; hailed as one of the most extraordinary love stories of our time, Shadowlandsfollows the life of the famous author C.S. Lewis and, inspired by the work of novelist Anthony Trollope, Lady Anna: All at Sea is a tale full of intrigue, rebellion and social politics.

A fast-paced, fresh and fun rendition of Gilbert and Sullivan’s H.M.S. Pinafore performed by an all-male cast while acclaimed English Touring Opera returning with three classic operas, including Mozart’s Don Giovanni.

Worldwide literary favourites are being transformed from page to stage this season. John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men is a powerful tale of two friends, their loyalty and dreams.

Michelle Magorian’s Goodnight Mister Tom is brought to life in a magical and uplifting stage adaptation, direct from a sell-out London season; English Touring Theatre and York Theatre Royal present the World Premiere of Bryony Lavery’s elegant, evocative and vivid adaptation of Evelyn Waugh’s Brideshead Revisited and four actors take on over 20 characters in a hilarious mad-cap dash around the world in the intoxicatingly entertaining Travels with my Aunt by Graham Greene.

Looking ahead to further on in 2016 we are set to welcome the most terrifying live theatre experience The Woman in Black.

Frank McGuiness’ iconic war play Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme also comes to Cambridge alongside the return of the triennial Cambridge Greek Play with Antigone and Lysistrata.

There will be a Britain’s Got Talent flavour on the stage with the world premiere of David Walliams’ hilarious Gangsta Granny and fellow judge Amanda Holden stars in Stepping Out alongside Angela Griffin.

Alan Ayckbourn’s Relatively Speaking will star Robert Powell and Liza Goddard and the family pantomime will be Dick Whittington and his Cat.
