No humbug from Tommy Steele in Scrooge!

I’VE always thought that legendary stage and screen star Tommy Steele is one of the nicest men in the business. The entertainer, with his trademark toothy smile and mop of blond hair, was one of our first pop stars in the late 1950s before going on to delight cinema audiences with such family favourites as Half A Sixpence and Finian’s Rainbow.

But he brings out his dark side in a role which he has made his own. Tommy steals the show as Ebenezer Scrooge in the fantastic festive musical, Scrooge, which is running at Milton Keynes Theatre from Tuesday until Saturday.

The perfect treat, Scrooge is a life-affirming family story based on Dickens’ classic, A Christmas Carol.

But it has been given a Yuletide makeover with stunning sets and costumes, specially created illusions by magician Paul Kieve (acclaimed for the magic effects in the Harry Potter films) and a fantastic musical score which features the Oscar nominated hit Thank You Very Much. Scrooge wouldn’t be complete without Ebenezer, Bob Cratchit, the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future, and of course Tiny Tim!

Tommy’s legendary career includes more than 20 hit singles, Hollywood movie hits like The Happiest Millionaire and countless award-winning stage musicals such as Hans Christian Andersen and Singin’ in the Rain. Away from entertaining he is also a respected sculptor and writer.
