Top hats and white ties at a premiere=

WATCH a world stage premiere this summer.

Dance musical Top Hat has been adapted for the theatre and the first ever performance will take place at Milton Keynes Theatre.

The production is based on the 1935 film and it will have a two week run at the theatre as the first leg of a 17 week UK tour.

It is expected to be transferred to the West End in spring next year.

In Top Hat Jerry Travers, a famous American tap dancer, arrives in London to appear in his first West End show.

He meets the irresistible Dale Tremont, realises she is the girl of his dreams and follows her across Europe in an attempt to win her heart.

The musical will be performed by a cast of 31 and they will be accompanied by a live band of 15.

Tom Chambers, winner of Strictly Come Dancing in 2008 and who played Max Tyler in the Waterloo Road television drama, will play Jerry Travers.

The part of Dale Tremont has been taken by Summer Strallen. Summer has played the part of Meg Giry in Love Never Dies on stage and Maria in The Sound of Music. She has also appeared on Hollyoaks.

The stage production uses the music and lyrics written by Irving Berlin and is based on the original film by RKO pictures.

It includes classic songs from the original motion picture, including Cheek to Cheek, Isn’t It a Lovely Day to be Caught in the Rain and Top Hat, White Tie and Tails.

It also incorporates other numbers by the same composer such as Let’s Face the Music and Dance and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.

Top Hat will be running at Milton Keynes Theatre from Tuesday, August 16 to Saturday, August 27. There will be an evening performance at 7.30pm each night. Additional 2.30pm matinees will be on Thursday, August 18, Saturday, August 20, Wednesday, August 24 and Saturday, August 27.
