Twenty four birds in this charmed pie

FOUR and twenty blackbirds will flutter forth from a pie in this laugh a minute pantomime.

Sing a Song of Sixpence is a late entry in this winter’s panto season but it promises to be well worth a ticket – even if you have already seen one of the larger theatre’s shows.

Henlow Amateur Theatrical Society is using Norman Robbins’ script as the main ingredient for the hilarity, which will be seasoned with plenty of lively songs and a healthy dose of fun and decorated with a generous helping of silliness.

The laugh-a-minute pantomime is based on the children’s nursery rhyme and comes complete with slapstick comedy and plenty of banter.

The king is in his counting house counting out his money or at least he would be but for the fact that all his wealth has been spirited away by the evil Witch Watt. She casts a spell on the whole kingdom when four and twenty blackbirds are baked in a pie. When the pie is opened the birds begin to sing – and the spell is set in motion.

The dashing Prince Valentine vows to save the day, spurred on by his love for the king’s daughter, Rosemary. He embarks on a quest to retrieve the magic crown. But to find out how it ends you will have to watch the panto for yourself.

Sing a Song of Sixpence will be performed on Friday, January 27 at 8pm, on Saturday, January 28 at 2pm and 8pm and on Sunday, January 29 at 2pm. There will also be showings the following week on Friday, February 3 at 8pm and Saturday, February 4 at 2pm and 8pm.

The venue is Henlow Theatre on Hitchin Road in Henlow Camp.
