The well-attended event was organised by Sandy Town Council’s Mayor’s Office with support from St Swithun’s Church. In attendance were Deputy Lieutenant of Bedfordshire Ruth Lloyd and consort, Mike Lloyd, MP for North Bedfordshire Richard Fuller, Lord Naseby of Sandy, Sandy Fire Station Watch Commander, Paul Barrows and Central Bedfordshire Council Ward Councillor for Sandy, Rob Pashby. Mayors of Arlesey, Godmanchester, Huntingdon, Leighton Linslade and Stotfold were also present to support Cllr Hewitt.
Pupils from Maple Tree Primary School and Laburnum Primary School sang beautifully, delighting the audience throughout the service. Their performances were the highlight of the service, receiving heartfelt applause from all in attendance. Rector of St Swithun’s Church gave a brief exhortation after which a collection was taken during the service for CHUMS, the Mayor’s selected charity. This is to support their work in safeguarding the mental and emotional health of children, young people and young carers in Bedfordshire.
Cllr Hewitt thanked everyone for their support and closed the service with a reception at the Church.
