Moggerhanger head is hoping to carry on good work

THE new headteacher at a lower school is looking forward to continuing the hard work of her predecessor.

Sarah Evans started work at Moggerhanger Lower School on Thursday, September 1 and says she is keen to further the progress made by previous head Paul Marshall, who retired last month (August).

Mrs Evans, 41, started at the school after spending 10 years as a teacher at Renhold Lower School in Bedford.

By a strange twist of fate she came close to taking a teaching job at Moggerhanger Lower before she started the job at Renhold.

She said: “Before I started in my last role I was actually offered a job at Moggerhanger Lower but Renhold came in first so I went for that one.

“When I saw the headteacher vacancy advertised I decided straight away that I would apply as opportunities like this do not come along very often.

“I was in the first year of my headteacher training course and you can study for three years or more, but when I saw the role advertised I got a bit excited and knew that it really was the right time to be applying.”

Mrs Evans – who moved to Bedfordshire from Nottingham when her husband Jeremy took up a new job at BBC Radio 3 – was attracted to the role by the opportunities for development that it offered.

She added: “In the time that he was here Mr Marshall did a lot for the school and it came on so far, and I am looking forward to continuing where he left off.

“The school continues to grow and develop and it plays a vital role in village life here.”

The role will also give Mrs Evans, who has three children, the chance to continue teaching.

She said: “I will be teaching for one-and-a-half days a week which is important to me, as the contact you have with the children is vital.

“I will be teaching children in Year 1 and Year 2.”
