The age profile of most of the individuals who have tested positive in the Stotfold, Arlesey and Shefford area is younger adults - with the majority aged between 20 and 29.

Cllr James Jamieson, leader of Central Beds Council, said: “It is more important than ever that we can control this outbreak and keep people safe.

“Some people do not show symptoms, so I am urging all residents, whatever their age, not to take risks and stick to measures that have been proven to be effective in controlling the spread.”

Everyone can help by:

> Social distancing – keep two metres apart from anyone outside your household or bubble;

> Wearing face coverings in shops and public transport, or if you think you are unable to maintain social distancing;

> Washing your hands regularly or use hand sanitiser.

Anyone with symptoms, however mild, is advised to stay at home unless going outside to be tested. Tests can be booked online at https://111.nhs.uk/covid-19/.

Cllr Jamieson added: “The other thing that everyone can do is help with the Test and Trace scheme. If you are contacted by the Test and Trace scheme, please be open and honest about who you have been in contact with. This is vital information that can help to protect others.”

The Council is working closely with Public Health England to investigate the source of these cases.
