Pop-up coronavirus testing centre after outbreak of cases in Shefford, Arlesey and Stotfold

The mobile testing unit will be available at Pendleton Sports Centre, at Etonbury Academy in Arlesey, to make it easier for residents in the area to get tested if they have symptoms.

The testing unit will be a drive-through test centre in the car park of Pendleton Sports Centre on the following days:

Wednesday, August 26 (today);

Thursday, August 27;

Saturday, August 29.

Residents can book a test via the NHS website at https://111.nhs.uk/covid-19/Last week, Central Beds Council confirmed there were 11 new cases in the Stotfold, Arlesey and Shefford area. This was a marked increase compared to just one new case the week before.

Since then there have been a further 6 confirmed cases in the week ending August 23. This number is expected to change over the next few days as the results of anyone tested at the end of the week come through.

To help avoid spreading the virus, the council recommends:

> Social distancing – keep 2 metres apart from anyone outside your household or bubble

> Wearing face coverings in settings where they are mandatory or if you think you are unable to maintain social distancing

> Washing your hands regularly

Cllr James Jamieson, leader of Central Beds Council, said: “We need everyone to help control the spread of the virus in this area. The new mobile testing unit will make it easier for anyone with symptoms, however mild, to get a test.

“If you do test positive it’s also really important that you are honest and open about who you have been in contact with. No-one will get into trouble, but this information can help to protect others.”
