Last week, the Chronicle reported that the vaccination process was due to start from January 18, the prospective date given to Central Beds Council by the NHS.

However, concerns mounted when residents saw no sign of activity at the centre on Monday, so the Chronicle has been endeavouring to find out when the programme will begin.

Richard Fuller, Conservative MP for North East Bedfordshire, was able to confirm the start date. He said: "It is reassuring that the Weatherley Centre will be open from tomorrow (January 21) as the absence of a location in Biggleswade has been a major gap in provision in the local vaccination effort.

"I would like to commend the health professionals, pharmacists and volunteers who will now be able to support us reaching the Prime Minister’s ambitious goal of vaccinating the most vulnerable of our citizens plus our front line health and care workers by mid-February.”

The Biggleswade Chronicle has contacted Bedfordshire CCG for a comment.
