A right royal occasion for Campton school pair!

A HEADTEACHER and former chair of governors at a lower school have been rewarded for their hard work – at a Buckingham Palace garden party.

Campton Lower School head Jacqueline Woodthorpe and Dr Bill Radley mingled with other guests at the Queen’s summer function on Tuesday last week (July 12).

Former Central Bedfordshire Council leader Councillor Tricia Turner put the pair forward for invites following the major improvements seen at the school in recent years.

The school was awarded an ‘outstanding’ grade from Ofsted in January 2010 and was also judged to be ‘outstanding’ for its care of children whose parents are in the armed forces.

Mrs Woodthorpe said: “It was a very grand occasion and it was lovely to dress up and spend some time at Buckingham Palace.

“We didn’t get a chance to actually meet the Queen but we did get fairly close to her so we could get a good view of her.

“We would have obviously very much liked to have met the Queen but with more than 7,000 guests there it was clearly not going to be possible for her to speak to everyone!”

Dr Radley said: “It was a real privilege to attend the party in the gardens and to catch sight of the Queen before she moved into the royal tent to continue the party in private.”

Central Bedfordshire Council is asked to put members of the community forward who have been seen to make a real difference to the area, and Dr Radley was proud to be recognised in this way.”
