A whole new chapter for Biggleswade school

A UNIT which will offer specialist support for up to eight pupils with autism has been opened at Holmemead Middle School.

A special unveiling ceremony was held at the Mead End school on Friday (June 10), where North-East Bedfordshire MP Alistair Burt officially opened the facility.

The Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) unit will ensure that children who need specialist support will receive this, in a redesigned part of the school which previously housed the library and ICT suite.

Central Bedfordshire Council decided to redevelop the site after a consultation with families, schools and other interested parties revealed that there was demand for a facility that would support affected youngsters,

The new section aims to meet the needs of pupils in their own locality, limit travel distances and allow them to make demonstrable progress at school.

Biggleswade mayor Councillor Tim Woodward also opened the new library and ICT suite at Holmemead Middle, before pupils gave presentations about the school council.
