A whole new chapter for lower school

A best-selling author officially opened a school’s new library.

Louis de Bernières, who wrote Captain Corelli’s Mandolin was the special guest at the launch at Haynes Lower School.

Norfolk-based writer Louis did some storytelling as well as opening the new facility.

Louis published his first novel in 1990.

He was later selected by Granta magazine as one of the 20 Best of Young British Novelists in 1993.

Since then Louis has become well known internationally as an author and his sixth novel, Birds Without Wings was published in 2004.

Captain Corelli’s Mandolin also won the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Best Novel.

Louis is currently working on a new novel.
