Cozy Travel were running the M12 bus which covers the route but the council have now chosen to change the operator.

Buses had been late on a number of occasions and they had also turned-up with a smaller than required bus which has meant children have been refused travel due to lack of space.

Independent councillor, Adam Zerny has had a number of complaints about the bus company from parents of children who use the bus.

He said: “I’ve been pushing Central Beds for action on this for a number of weeks.

“I’m glad they’ve finally done something about it but sorry it took them so long.

“Communication from the council has not always been clear and they must do better.

“Given the council charge some parents £150-a-term per child for the school transport, children deserve better than this.

“The council also need to deal with the associated issue whereby some children do not qualify for free travel but they are not guaranteed a place on a bus even if their parents are prepared to pay for it.”

He has also been told there are a large number of students being driven in to school who felt that the service was not reliable enough to pay for.

A Central Beds Council spokesperson said: “The operator was changed as the previous operator collected so many default points that the decision was taken to remove the route from them and following the retender of the route the contract for that route has now been awarded to Barton Coaches.”
