All the fun of the run for Biggleswade club

IT was a case of 60 miles for 60 years on Sunday (October 16) as an athletics clubs celebrated its anniversary.

Members of Biggleswade Athletic Club ran through towns and villages throughout Chronicle Country to mark the landmark, finishing at Sandy Sports Centre.

To make sure that all runners could take part the route was divided up into 10 stages of varying distances ranging from four miles to nine, and many members ran more than one stage.

Eight runners started the first stage at 8am and after the early morning mist had cleared the sun came out and the group ran in unseasonably warm temperatures.

Ed Jones, Cat Marriott and Jon Balaam all ran more than 20 miles each over a series of different stages.

The tenth and final stage saw a group of more than 20 members including juniors and seniors run from Potton market square to the sports centre.

As they crossed the finishing line on the athletics track Sandy mayor Councillor Susan Sutton was on hand to greet and congratulate them.

Fellow members, friends and well-wishers also cheered on the runners from various checkpoints along the routes.
