Applause rolls out for cadets with dedication

A CHALLENGING year of competitions and skill learning as well as fun culminated in an awards evening for teenagers.

Air cadets from the 22 (Sandy) Squadron held their annual awards night in front of parents and guests.

The evening started with a comical continuity drill routine performed by a small group of cadets. There was also a first aid scenario played out and a demonstration of fieldcraft.

The Cadet of the Year award went to 15-year-old Laura Dorrell for being an active member of the squadron, taking part in most of the activities and showing dedication.

She said: “It was such a shock when my name was called out for this award. It’s something I’m really proud to achieve.

“Well done to everyone that got awards; you should all be very proud of yourselves. To those who didn’t get awards, you are all still a credit to the squadron.”

The Citizenship Award and the Media and Communication Trophy both went to Sam Keeble, 15.

The Sports Cup was awarded to William Clubb, also 15, and the Buccaneer Trophy, which is awarded to best new recruit, was given to Matthew Randall, 16.

The Education Award went to Gursimar Dhillon, 15, Joshua Bruce, 17, received the Drill Cup and the Modelling Trophy went to Elliot Hall, 15.

Lauren Barton, 14, received the Tempsford Trophy and the CO’s Shield went to Jessica Gouveia, 14. Certificates of Commendation were awarded to Ben Kilby, 15, and Evelyn Harris, 14, in recognition of their effort and hard work in the squadron.
