Artists are drawn to gallery in Haynes

AN art enthusiast is opening her own gallery after she was unable to find an appropriate space to display her stepson’s pieces in.

Franklin’s Art Gallery will open on Saturday, June 25 in its Haynes location.

Artists will be able to display their works in the gallery for three weeks before they are auctioned off, a first for an art gallery.

Company director, Karen Franklin, said: “My partner and I were looking for a gallery to display my stepson’s artwork in but the cost was more than expected, some would only take certain kinds of art and in one there was a minimum of three months, which is a commitment.

“We want to help the amateur artists in the local area; it doesn’t matter what the artwork is or the style.

“We are only charging fees of 22 per cent commission and 1p per square inch of hanging room so it’s affordable.”

The first auction will be held on Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17.
