Baroness declares reserve open

A NEW nature reserve was officially opened by a baroness at the weekend.

Baroness Barbara Young visited the Stotfold Mill Nature Reserve on Sunday (June 5). It has been developed by local volunteer group, TEASEL, over the last 12 years.

The baroness toured the reserve and said: “I know you get a lot of human visitors and the wildlife has obviously voted with its feet by being present. With changes in climate it is vital that there is a network of natural sites across the country to ensure that our wildlife continues to flourish. Stotfold Watermill Nature Reserve is right on the cutting edge.”

Baroness Young was selected to open the reserve as she was created a life peer for her achievements in nature conservation.

At the end of the visit she was presented with a painting of a kingfisher by local artist, Geoff Hoile, who also produced the information panels for the reserve.

The nature reserve is open every day and can be entered via the Stotfold Watermill car park. Well behaved dogs are welcome but should be kept on a lead to protect the wildlife.
