Beacons light up to help celebrate Queen's 90th

And towns and villages throughout Chronicle country will be helping the celebrations by lighting beacons.

The Queen will light the Principal Beacon at Windsor Castle. This will be followed by the lighting of a number of Beacons along the Long Walk, Windsor Great Park, including one at the Copper Horse, and then over 1,000 beacons will be lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK overseas Territories and a Commonwealth Country to celebrate this landmark birthday.

Shefford Town Council will be lighting its beacon on top of the fire-station training tower at 7.30pm.

Stotfold town council’s Beacon Lighting Ceremony takes place at Stotfold Cemetery, Mill Lane. Congregate by the Cemetery Chapel from 7pm. There will be a procession up the hill to the Beacon at 7.15pm, ready to light the Beacon at 7.30pm, followed by a short ceremony and wishing Her Majesty a Happy Birthday. It is advisable to bring torches with you.

Stotfold Mill has given permission to use their car park as an overflow, but please take care walking along Mill Lane in the dark.

Arlesey will light a gas Beacon on the recreation ground

In Potton the celebrations are at the Henry Smith Playing Fields. Party on Potton will be present with a barbecue and mobile bar, raising funds for the big weekend.

A gas fuelled beacon will be lit at 8.30pm. You may want to bring a torch.

In Sandy, the venue is the Market Square and the Pinnacle, Sandy

The event starts in the Market Square at 7.30pm when there will be music and stalls and refreshments. There will be a procession to the Pinnacle, via Cambridge Road and at 8.10pm a Beacon will be lit . The event will end with a Firework finale.
