Bees moved to new hive

A COLONY of honeybees has been relocated after they were found living in a salt depot.

They were discovered in Sandy when workmen arrived to carry out repairs on Monday (May 9).

The bees had been living in the wall cavity near the roof for several years.

The Highways Agency called experts from the British Beekeepers’ Association and three nests were found. They left two beehives near the nest overnight and nearly all of the bees entered. They were then driven to a new home north of Bedford.

Wally Thrale, from the British Beekeepers’ Association, said: “There is still time this year for the bees to produce a small crop of honey.

“They behaved very well when we demolished their homes and neither of us carrying out the work was stung.”
