Beeston’s glorious gardens

POURING rain did not deter loyal visitors to a village’s sixth open gardens day.

Garden lovers flocked to see Beeston residents’ green spaces on Sunday, June 12 with the event raising more than £500 which will be given to local projects and charities.

Beeston correspondent, Poppy Cope, opened her garden.

She said: “It was a wonderful day and people turned up determinedly cheerful. Beestonians love their outdoor spaces and gardens with a passion. Almost everybody in Beeston has a garden so it’s a binding thing.

“We have beautiful gardens of all sizes from those the size of pocket handkerchiefs to some that cover acres and acres. Some are planted for the floral effect and some, like ours, are habitat gardens.”
