Work to improve to Park House in Sandy will see six new bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and a spacious new day room constructed around an enclosed courtyard.

John Tillisch, who has owned the nursing home for three years, said: “The old building was not designed to be used as a care home. It was previously extended but that could have been better thought out. We are taking this opportunity to put things right and make the place work better for residents and staff.”

Residents were consulted about the improvements and contributed ideas. Once the current extension work is completed improvements will be considered for the existing building.

Park House is licenced to accommodate 29 people but it currently houses fewer as most people prefer not to share rooms.

The extension is being constructed by Potton building firm Hutchinson’s.

Owner Robert Hutchinson said: “We aim to keep the noise and disruption to a minimum during the construction so as to cause as little disturbance as possible to the residents, who will obviously be living here while we are working.

“It should be completed in June. When we knock through to the existing building the new part will be fully decorated and functional.”

The timber framed extension will be delivered to the site in panels to be erected on a brick foundation wall. It will be clad in timber, as will the current extension, to better match the Georgian building.
